Week 12 Recap: Texas vs Kansas State (w/ NCN Metrics)

Although this game had no bearing on the remainder of the season due to Texas not being Bowl Eligible for the first time since Charlie Strong’s last year on campus (yikes), it was good to see the team fight hard to finish out the season for the Longhorn seniors.

Some key metrics to observe from the game:

  • First off, great win for the seniors in their last game playing at DKR. No matter the outcome of the season, it’s always good to have your last game end in a ‘W’
  • Roschon Johnson is the kind of player this team needs at every position. He single-handedly willed this team to a win.
  • The Texas defense showed up for an entire game for the first time in a long time…actually since the first game of the season against ULL
  • Sark’s game-plan for K-State was spot on. Knowing you have 2 banged up QBs, one of which who did not play, Sarks use of the Ro-Cat formation was genius. Put the ball in the hands of the player who gives you the best opportunity to win against your current opponent.
  • Speaking of QBs, I would have loved to see how this season would have finished with 1) A healthy Casey Thompson for the whole season or 2) A more calm Hudson Card (similar to what we saw in the Kansas game)
  • Where would this game…or better yet, this season have been without Xavier Worthy. The true freshman might make an AP All-American team.
  • BJ Foster completely gave up on K-State’s QB’s 71 yard TD run. He was immediately pulled and never saw the field again for the entire game. (Only took the coaching staff 12 games to figure that out)
  • The Longhorn offensive line looked much improved. Continuity is key and I believe in the future of this position group with another year of Coach Flood.
